My road to a healthier lifestyle

Hello everyone,

I have always been the kind of person to say it will never happen to me. Diabetes runs in my family history and two weeks ago I went to see the Dr. because I get a health screening every six months. To my surprise I was told that I my lab work was not good. My cholesterol levels and glucose levels were very high and it was considered to be uncontrolled diabetes. I mentioned to the Dr. that I was not going to allow my body to succumb to this disease and that I was willing to work on it if I was given the opportunity. My Dr. said that I have until August 15, to bring my blood sugar levels down and we will see where I'm at by then. Hopefully I won't need to be placed on medication. Last week I started eating smaller portions of healthy foods. No more junk food, greasy foods or bread which is my favorite. I am pleased to say that I have lost 6 pounds in my first week of eating healthier. I know I still have a ways to go but I am very optimistic.

  1. Hello Leonor,
I am glad to hear that you are taking control of your life and your health. Part of the battle is admitting there is a problem and you have that part under control it would seem.
Now lets work together and see if what Dr. Pert stated is true and will work for you. When she said "The mind is the body and the body is the mind" (Dacher, 2006)What she was saying is in essence is that how we perceive and think about our body will have a direct reflection on how our body reacts (Dacher, 2006).
So with that in mind and the healthy eating habits you have begun, please try picturing yourself as a healthier more flourishing individual. If all of this stuff we are learning is true, then you should soon see a healthier Leonor.

    Good Luck on your Journey.

  2. hi Hi, Leonor, I am sorry to hear that you had that feedback from the doctor. I am also glad to see you are not willing to succumb to any disease. I was told by my doctor recenetly that I had too much salt in my diet and could lead to health problems that I may have to have medication for. Well, I don't like medicine anyway. So, I am attempting to seriously release salty foods that are very high considering it’s in most foods. I am glad you are focusing on better health. I know how you said you like bread. I eat it sometimes, but don’t like the smell of it,. Sometimes, so I eat very little unless it’s a cake. My husband has become very aware of the products we eat. He reads he labels all the time. So, this helps me eat better and healthier. I'm on that road for better health with you.
