Unit 5 Blog

I enjoyed the subtle mind exercise more than the loving kindness exercise. I wasn’t able to focus and concentrate with the loving kindness exercise. I couldn’t really understand when the person was talking due to the static and the voice sounded a bit muffled. I relax better with soft music or sounds like with the subtle mind exercise. I was able to focus and I enjoyed the sounds of the ocean it was very relaxing. I could imagine myself standing by the ocean and enjoying the fresh air and watching the waves come on to the sand and return. I would recommend the subtle mind exercise to everyone out there I thought it was a great technique for relaxation. I would recommend the loving kindness also only because maybe it might work for someone else since we all have different ways of relaxing.

What I learned from the readings is the connection of spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness is that, they go together as a unit. For example if someone is not physically well then their state of mind and spiritual wellness might also be affected. If all are all connected with each other for example if someone has no spiritual beliefs they might not feel there is purpose in their life. Feelings like these might cause them to feel depressed and disconnected from society causing their mental and physical health to decline. If there is spiritual belief then there is meaning and purpose in one’s life and this will give them the motivation to strive for mental and physical wellness.

  1. Hello Leonor: I like your blog page. Pink is one of my favorite colors. I agree with you that the subtle mind exercise was much easier to focus on that the loving-kindness exercise. I too need to have soft sounds of nature to help me relax and it keeps my mind from wondering.

I have always believed that there is a connection between mind-body and spiritual. If an individual is feeling depressed and has no will to move forward to better themselves than they have no real faith. This leads to illness and further mental illnesses.

  2. Hi Leonor,
Your blog is nice and concise. I understand your reasons for choosing the subtle practice over the loving-kindness practice. I also can concentrate better with the soft sounds of ocean water. The sound of water itself is relaxing. I've also listened to the sounds of a fireplace on YouTube for meditation. You should check it out and let me know what you think!
    Thanks,
    Aja

  3. Leonor,

I enjoyed the subtle mind exercise better too. I have agree that I really enjoyed the sounds of the waves and found it very relaxing. I almost fell asleep a couple of time to be woken with more instructions. I think that you are right about if someone is not physically fit it could effect their mind and spirit. It is important that they are able to keep a good spirit to help health their physical pain too. Good blog.

  4. Hello Leonor: I agree that the Loving-Kindness exercise was very difficult and hard to follow. There was too much talking and too much information to focus on. The Subtle mind exercise was very relaxing and peaceful in that it had long periods of ocean sounds and relaxing music. This exercise was much easier to relate to.

I am finding that I need to learn to relax and block out the mindless chatter in my head. I also need to learn to block out outside noise and stay focused on one thought for longer periods of time. I am finding that mediation tapes in the car are most helpful because I can relax outside my home better than in my home.
