Unit 4 Blog

When I first listened to the tapes I was not able to feel completely relaxed because I felt distracted by the noise of the air blowing on the recording and I couldn’t really hear the person speaking clearly the sound was a little muffled. I listened to the tapes a second time and I was still not able to relax due to the noise on the background of the recording. I think it might also be listening to someone talk me through a relaxation technique that might be distracting to me. I believe that I can relax better if I would have listened to relaxing sounds or music. As for recommending this tape to someone else I would because we all have different techniques on relaxation and it might be of some benefit to them.
The concept of mental workout is to stimulate the brain by enhancing our learning not just through educational goals but through relaxation exercises such as meditation and concentration. These exercises will help to stimulate the brain and expand our way of thinking to a higher level of focus and if necessary to have a more positive attitude towards life.
Experts believe that when we exercise it releases chemicals that affect our way of thinking and that make us feel good and put us in a good mood (mentalhealth.org). When I perform physical exercise workouts and listen to relaxing music for at least 10-15 minutes a day sometimes more if possible. My mind as well as my body starts relieving stress and tension which causes mental fatigue. If I had a bad day at work it relieves my anger and frustration. After I complete both my mental and physical workout I feel like a new person and I am ready to face another day.

Answers to questions for my blog

Answers to Questions on My Blog
A.      I would rate my physical well-being an 8 because, currently I’m improving on my weight and learning how to make healthier choices in regards to food.
B.      I would rate my spiritual well-being as an 8 because I am still learning how to continue to strengthen my faith everyday by doing what is right and following my beliefs.
C.      I would rate my psychological well-being a 7 because I am still learning how to cope with stress and not let situations that might occur in my life get the best of me.
My physical goal would be to reach an ideal weight so that all of my blood levels will be at a normal range. I also want to continue to eat healthy so that I don’t feel fatigue and have more energy to do the things I like.
My spiritual goal would be to continue attending the church that I feel comfortable with and continue putting my faith in God that he will lead me through all of the right paths to fulfill my goals.
My psychological goal would be to learn more on how stress affects the body. I also would like to be more open minded so that I don’t let every little thing that life throws at me be overcome with stress.
The activities that I can implement to assist me in moving toward each goal would be physical exercise, attending a bible based church, continue to practice good eating habits and practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or listening to music to reduce stress.
I thought The Crime of the Century was very beneficial I enjoyed the breathing techniques and the mental imagery. These are simple exercises that I can practice every day that won’t take a lot of time and will definitely help me deal with stress to improve my overall health. I would also like to share these exercises with my husband so that he too can learn to relieve stress.

My road to a healthier lifestyle

Hello everyone,

I have always been the kind of person to say it will never happen to me. Diabetes runs in my family history and two weeks ago I went to see the Dr. because I get a health screening every six months. To my surprise I was told that I my lab work was not good. My cholesterol levels and glucose levels were very high and it was considered to be uncontrolled diabetes. I mentioned to the Dr. that I was not going to allow my body to succumb to this disease and that I was willing to work on it if I was given the opportunity. My Dr. said that I have until August 15, to bring my blood sugar levels down and we will see where I'm at by then. Hopefully I won't need to be placed on medication. Last week I started eating smaller portions of healthy foods. No more junk food, greasy foods or bread which is my favorite. I am pleased to say that I have lost 6 pounds in my first week of eating healthier. I know I still have a ways to go but I am very optimistic.
